Why Holistic Performance Coaching?
Because no two athletes are the same, and what works for one person may leave the other frustrated or even injured. Holistic Performance Coaching is about finding your most efficient path to achieving your performance goals.
What I Do
Do I need to be an athlete to benefit?
If you use your body for what you do - you’re an athlete. This ranges from needing your body for work, for play, or for recreational or professional sport. Across the board the body still has the same fundamental functions and needs, and often these are completely forgotten or never learned, leading to pain, injury, and limitations. If pain, low energy, or fear of injury hold you back from living the life you dream of, then you have a performance goal - to get back in the game of life!
"Since working with Mischa, my functional movements have increased rapidly. I am now at the point where my improved mobility and flexibility are enabling me to get to the next level physically. The FIVB World Tour is an extremely demanding league and I am very happy to have Mischa on our team."
Chaim Schalk Team Canada Beach Volleyball
"As a high-performance athlete with some unique physical challenges and limitations, I found Mischa's approach very effective and was impressed by how soon after I saw improvements. I was and am continually impressed with the creativity of his approach to my strength training. He gave me very innovative exercises I don't think I would have otherwise come across, and I attribute this to how much he personalizes his training to me as an individual. Relative to others in my sport I have been very healthy, and much of this is due to Mischa's very holistic approach. He made sure that the training I was doing was strengthening me while also fixing any existing injuries or problems I may have had."

"The improvements that I have made in my physical condition and overall well-being while working with Mischa have been amazing. For four years prior to starting with Mischa I tried various therapies, treatments and exercise programs in an effort to recover from back and neck injuries sustained in an auto accident. Initially I made some progress, but the last of those four years was a long plateau that left me well short of recovery. I am not an athlete, but I had hopes of returning to my formerly active and pain free life. In six short months Mischa has helped me to achieve what I had failed to in the previous four years. He designs workouts for me that capitalize on my strengths while improving my weaknesses. Workouts with Mischa are always challenging, interesting, fun and tailored to me. His extensive knowledge, attention to detail and enthusiasm have all played a role in my success. In many ways I have already exceeded my hopes and I am becoming stronger and better than I have ever been."
"I always enjoy working with Mischa whether it's in the weight room or on the volleyball court. The positive atmosphere he creates allows you to challenge yourself without feeling overwhelmed or frustrated. Mischa's knowledge of the human body is very sophisticated... he knows an incredible amount on how to train, feed, and care for it. It's so entertaining working with Mischa because he is always teaching you new things. In the weight room, we are constantly reevaluating my progress and making small adjustments to keep me headed towards my goals. I've worked with many coaches during my years as a competitive athlete, and I can say without hesitation that Mischa stands out by creating an experience that is personal, informative, and fun!"

"I have had the opportunity to work with Mischa as both a colleague, patient and peer. What sets Mischa apart is his desire for knowledge and his continuous pursuit to better himself, both on a personal level and for the service he provides for his clients. Mischa excels at taking a holistic approach to his training style to look at client goals to address both their strengths and weaknesses."

"Mischa and I have co-treated a number of athletes since 2010. His work is consistently top quality. With his help, athletes have been able to understand and address immediate deficiencies. He has also helped them to develop behaviours to help them reach their long term for sport and lifelong fitness. I recommend him for athletes and non-athletes who are interested in a top quality training experience, and I commend Mischa for his attentiveness to incorporate a multidisciplinary approach to help his clients succeed in their goals."
Travis Dodds Physiotherapist
"I would not be where I am today in my beach volleyball career if it were not for Mischa. His athletic training and technical workouts, which are paired with mental and nutritional training off the court, has allowed me to play the sport I love at the highest level. His commitment to my development combined with his extensive knowledge in injury rehabilitation and coaching creates a recipe for success. Most importantly, Mischa cares about wellness in every area of my life and goes above and beyond to help me be the best person I can be."
Chloe Stone Beach Volleyball Player
"Mischa’s knowledge and progressive training style position him as an industry leader. Many strength coaches get caught up in worrying about the amount of movement such as number of sets, reps, and weight moved. Mischa’s philosophy goes far beyond this. By emphasizing quality of movement in addition to amount of movement individuals get what they truly want, which is to feel better, move better, and perform better. The training model I learned from Mischa has become one of the core philosophies I hold as a strength coach."
Josh Doornenbal Owner, EDGE Strength & Conditioning
"Mischa has a refreshing approach to developing athletes with a true emphasis on health, mobility and stability. He emphasizes encouraging and empowering a mindset that creates a clear focus that is obvious in his athletes."
Dr. Jeff Almon Chiropractor, MVMTLAB
"I loved working with Mischa because of his greater understanding of what it takes to truly get the best of each individual. None of us are built the same and he always took the time to study the details of each person's body. Each person and athlete he sees as a new project that he wants to conquer. When you have someone with the knowledge that he has, committed to you and wanting the best for you, it is priceless."
Karina Leblanc Olympic Bronze Medalist, Canada Women's Soccer
"I started training with Mischa in May 2013. I had always been very athletic but at 52 years old, my flexibility and mobility were severely limited by knee pain. I was in constant agony and told by my orthopedic surgeon that I would need knee replacements within a few years. I had gone from golfing 4 days a week, hiking, kayaking and snowshoeing to a sedentary lifestyle. When I first consulted with Mischa he assured me there is always room for improvement. I wanted to believe there was hope. These last 6 months I have seen amazing improvement. I am no longer in pain and my strength and flexibility are more than I could have imagined. Stairs are no longer an issue and my gait appears normal. I have learned a lot in this short time. Mischa’s expertise has given me strength and flexibility and even more importantly, hope. I now have a stronger body that will be less prone to injuries of any sort. I hate to think where I would be today if I had not met Mischa when I did."
“I was really impressed with the way Mischa worked from the fundamentals up: through biomechanics to core strength and then to sport-specific training. Not only have my daughter’s skills improved but she understands how her body works and how to keep it strong and injury-free.”
Leslie Beckman Parent
"I have had the pleasure of working with Mischa with a number of patients. His approach to fundamentals and movement competency before capacity ensures that his clients have a solid foundation to reach their maximum potential. His holistic approach to health and wellness with each individual ensures that they are provided with all of the tools necessary for success. Mischa truly is a leader in the industry"
Melina Kurtakis Physiotherapist
"Mischa creates the type of athlete that walks with a purpose. They do not settle, but rather strive for the greatness that he has enabled them to achieve. I am a proud believer in who Mischa Harris is and what he does for his athletes."
Nick Del Bianco Team Canada Volleyball Player
"We have been so fortunate to have Mischa coach our daughters for the past 4 years. Megan and Nicole have had great success both nationally and internationally and they could not have done it without him. He is an exceptional technical coach, but it has been his focus on the whole self that has proven invaluable. By incorporating the mental and emotional side of sport along with nutrition and overall health, Mischa offers an innovative and progressive approach that is impossible to find elsewhere. He manages to challenge the girls to be the best they can be on and off the court and in such a positive and supportive manner. We have seen the girls get stronger both physically and mentally over the past few years and we have no doubt he will help them reach the next level. He is not only Megan and Nicole's coach, but their mentor and guide and has been able to connect with them on a level that no other coach has been able to. Thank you Mischa!"
Sean & Kristina McNamara Parents of National Team Beach Volleyball Players
"Mischa Harris has been one of the key components to the successes of my teams for the past 10 years. Mischa has been part of my road to gold program for my highschool volleyball teams, my college team, and my international beach teams since I started coaching at a high performance level. Mischa looks at the whole athlete, from their mental wellbeing to their health, as he believes as I do that all of these external factors come into play when an athlete is trying to achieve their goals. I have coached many different levels ranging in ages, competition levels and both sand and indoor...but one thing is constant...Mischa's professionalism and care for his athletes. I trust Mischa implicitly to mentally train, nutritionally support, physically train, prehabilitate or rehabilitate my athletes. I have never known someone to fall more in line with my values than Mischa. No one cares more about his athletes, or yours! Mischa I would like to personally thank you for all you have done for my athletes and programs over the years. From Team Canada to our provincial Gold Medals both my teams and myself could never have done it without your support. Thank you."
Kyra Iannone Head Coach, Douglas College Women's Volleyball and Team BC Beach Volleyball
"I have been working with Mischa for the last two years. Field hockey is not an easy sport on your body and Mischa really took the time to understand what I was going through with each practice and game. Tight hip flexors, glutes, quads and calves all contributed to my chronic back aches and Mischa was able to break it down and bring things back to basics in order to re-train my body to work more productively. My functional movement has improved and keeps improving because Mischa is constantly making small adjustments to specific exercises that allow me to have more flexibility and strength."
Kate Gillis Team Canada Field Hockey
"I have worked with Mischa since 2010 and I can truly say that he has had the greatest impact on my growth and development as an athlete. His knowledge is outstanding and I have always looked to him first for advice, training and support. His wholehearted dedication and belief in me and the athletes I’ve trained with has pushed us into becoming exceptional athletes and challenged us to become better individuals. He knows exactly how to tie in all the necessary components of being a healthy, strong and well balanced person to develop top-notch athletes. He has been the key to my pursuit of excellence and reaching my maximum potential!"

"I had problems with both my shoulders for almost ten years, suffering multiple subluxations and dislocations on each shoulder. I would workout and go to physio everyday but still the problems persisted. I stopped playing varsity volleyball at UBC and had to stop doing other relatively “safe’ activities such as golf because my shoulders were too unstable and I was tired of them constantly dislocating. This continuous pain and instability caused me to undergo 2 surgeries per shoulder over a four year period and I was on the verge of quitting volleyball. I began consistently working with Mischa after the 4thsurgery and the turnaround and progress that I’ve felt in the year and a half since he began working with me has been amazing! The workout program and exercises that Mischa developed and progressed has me physically able to do things now in the gym or on the court that I couldn’t do even before I started having shoulder problems. Both my shoulders have never felt so strong or stable and I’m back to playing volleyball at a high level. The work that Mischa has done with me has been amazing and there is no way that I would be in my position without his support, knowledge and dedication!"

"In the past 15+ years I have met many Strength & Conditioning Coaches and Personal Trainers alike, and Mischa is truly one of the most dedicated and masterful professionals that I have had the pleasure to work along with! A good coach needs to balance the the technical aspects of their craft and be able to communicate and connect with the people they work with, and Mischa is one of the few that has the ability to this very well!"
